The 5 Star Martial Arts / Renzo Gracie Los Angeles Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition Team competed at The IBJJF NoGi World Championship at The Anaheim Convention Center this past weekend. NoGi Worlds is one of the biggest BJJ competitions in the martial arts and attracts top competitors from around the world. All of our competitors fought hard, exhibited great sportsmanship, and did a great job representing the academy. We are proud of everybody who competed this past weekend.
5 Star Martial Arts had four competitors who reached the podium at NoGi Worlds with two silver and two bronze medals.
Riley Stearns had a great showing in his Purple Belt and IBJJF competition debut. He won his first match by rear naked choke, his second match by straight ankle lock and dominated his third match with a 9-0 win. He lost a close match in the finals to secure a Silver Medal.
Steve Calderon, one of our most active competitors in the Purple Belt Masters 3 division, placed second in his division to cap off a successful 2018 competition season where he took home medals from a number of competitions.
Nico Eguiguren has been on a hot streak on the competition circuit all year long and earned Bronze in his division on Sunday.
Dexter Chin, who has competed in competitions in China and IBJJF Masters Worlds, secured a Bronze Medal in the Brown Belt Masters 3 division.
Great job guys and also thank you to all of the coaches who helped corner and prepare the team for NoGi Worlds and all of the competitions this past year. Also, special thanks to all of the students at 5 Star Martial Arts for drilling, training, pushing and helping all of the competitors get ready to compete on one of the biggest stages in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
